The Fortins in America

Under the French regime, seven Fortins came to New France: Louis Fortin dit Lagrandeur, Pierre-Nicolas Fortin, Pierre Fortin dit Paris, Marin-Charles Fortin, François Fortin dit Hermel and Julien Fortin dit Bellefontaine, inhabitants of Cap Tourmente in the Seigneurie de Beaupré.

Also on the Côte-de-Beaupré was the surgeon François Fortin, born in Saint-Jacques de Dieppe in 1635, son of François Fortin and Catherine Collemont, but who returned to France around 1666. François Fortin had married, at Quebec, on April 6, 1660, Marie Jolliet, sister of Louis Jolliet the great explorer.

Six who persevered

They came from Le Mans, Evreux and St-Cosme de Vair,
Or from Ploërmel, Angoulême and Rouen,
Leaving for the unknown beyond family, friends, partners,
Dieppe, St-Malo or elsewhere, facing the wind, straight ahead,
They braved the Atlantic, its confusing currents, Sea of oil without wind, storms to tear the sails, To finally perceive the rock Percé and its vault, And this great river that will lead them to their lucky star,We are their descendants and proud to be,Whether it is Julien, Marin-Charles, François, Louis, Pierre-Nicolas or Pierre Dit Paris, our ancestors. All Fortin, of French lineage, of Quebec essence..

Once upon a time...
